About Us
The Maritime Traditional Archery website is developed with the purpose to inform traditional archers what is happening in the Maritime Provinces such as shoots, events, seminars, etc.
The purpose is also to help introduce new traditional archers to the sport of archery.
What is traditional archery? Traditional archery is bows that don’t have aids such as trigger releases, scopes for sights, stabilizers, etc. Traditional archers use a recurve bow, longbow, or primitive bow. The equipment used is nothing but a string, bow and arrows.
Primitive bows are bows made in the old ways of our forefathers. They are made out of wood, horn, sinew and antler. Modern traditional bows such as the longbow and recurve are made out of fiberglass, aluminum risers and carbon. They are fashioned after the primitive bows. The modern bows are more robust.
To become a traditional archer is a longer learning process than with a bow that has sights and release aids which is part of the appeal for some people. The traditional archery community is smaller in numbers compared to our modern compound archers, however do not be intimidated. Yes, we are a smaller group but come and join us and watch how much fun we have!
